Then, gradually towards the edges of the river, the level of interference decreases. They are most intensive in the middle, in front of the slit itself. We observe the strength of waves at the long purple line. You can see a slit, comparable in size to the water’s wavelength. The most spectacular example is diffraction in water. This continues until the pattern becomes indistinguishable. Then, there are repeated additions and cancellations, decreasing in amplitude outwards. In the middle, there’s a very strong add-up of waves. If we observe these additions and cancellations along a line parallel to the slit, we get a pattern. They cancel each other at some places while adding up at others. ![]() The waves then interfere, which results in differences in the strength of waves. The idea of circularly spreading waves and their physical explanation is called the Huygens principle. The degree of this varies, depending on the size of the slit. All along this line, the new waves begin to spread out in different directions. We model this change in behaviour as if new waves were created in the line of the slit. If the opening is comparable to the wave length, diffraction will occur at a much larger relative scale. Depending on the size of the slit compared to the wavelength, this bending can vary in size. (You will apply it later to the aperture opening in your camera.) The barrier can be a slit, or it can be a single object. When waves meet a barrier on their way, their behaviour changes. You encounter it all the time, even if it doesn’t catch your attention. You can observe it in liquids, soundwaves and light. Diffraction is a physical phenomenon affecting all types of waves. ![]() When it’s time to restore to a new or repaired production server, failback is just as fast and easy.Vision Solutions Double-Take Availability is a proven, simple, scalable high availability solution for Windows and Linux that defends your business’ profitability and reputation by providing protection from data loss and downtime. One thing Gears Tactics absolutely nails is Gears of War’s sense of heavy, deliberate movement. Support units will by default start out with a stim grenade ability (which heals 100 damage on any friendly units it hits), but can also have their grenade slot switched over to a basic frag or a more powerful frag obtained from a loot box. Weakened grenadiers and disciples should also be destroyed with a grenade.īesides just that damage output, grenades are also effective for knocking enemies out of cover or interrupting their own overwatch cones or a sniper’s pin ability. The raw damage they do is enough to kill melee units like the wretches or the tickers, but is usually enough to also kill the basic hammerburst drone units, if it’s close enough. Surprise: Grenades are a great way of clearing out groups of enemies who’ve decided to (foolishly) cluster together. Grenades are Your Best Friend During Large Shootouts The stim ability (one of the first support abilities you can purchase) can also be upgraded to revive a downed friendly unit, even from afar. It’s entirely possible to get through a lot of missions without someone there to patch you up on the field, but not having one makes things exponentially more difficult, considering how long some missions can go on for. ![]() ![]() Main character Gabe Diaz is a support unit, so he’s an obvious choice, but you’ll have to recruit a second support unit later on. That said, make sure you have at least two support units who can perform basic healing functions with the stim, group therapy, or healing patch abilities. Thankfully, Gears Tactics doesn’t make you wait for units to heal their injuries between missions, unlike XCOM, which would put them out of commission for weeks at a time. Invest in Healing Abilities Early and Often Play your cards right, and you can string together a series of downed enemies that one or two units can mop up with an execution, giving everyone else the resources they need to close in on any enemies left standing. But if you’ve got a grenade-launching boomer waltzing through your front door, no one could really blame you.Įvery time a unit executes a Locust enemy, every other member of the squad gets one extra action point. At best, it’s overkill, and you’re wasting a shot. Usually, you should try to avoid place multiple cones over one specific area, as both units will fire if an enemy moves through the cone. Locust use overwatch incredibly often, and are very fond of trying to pin down your units with one or more cones. ![]() Overwatch is less about getting a kill and more about denying an enemy the right to move through a space, giving you the positioning advantage. Snipers have thin but extremely long cones, while scouts and their shotguns have short and wide cones. The range and width of that cone will depend on their class/weapon type. Overwatch is one of your best tools of defense, allowing you to place cones of vision over the battlefield from your unit’s position. ![]() To recall, the South Korean company had recently launched the Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris in India featuring an iris scanner for biometric authentication.Ī recently leaked image claimed that Samsung could hold its next event as soon as August 2 to unveil the next Note phablet. If this comes out to be true, the Galaxy Note 7 will become the first smartphone with the iris scanner feature in Samsung's lineup. The smartphone is expected to sport the iris scanner at the front panel. The report again stresses that the iris scanner is an even better secured biometric technology compared to the fingerprint scanner. Korea Herald reports that Patron won the tender months ago for supplying the entire volume of biometric modules needed for possibly for the Galaxy Note 7. Now, a new report from Korea suggests that Patron, a Korea-based camera module maker, will supply the iris camera modules to Samsung. There have been reports earlier claiming that Samsung is planning to include the iris scanner on this year's Galaxy Note 7. ![]() And thus the chances of adoption by users, as well by app developers’ improve instantly.South Korean smartphone giant is widely expected to pack an iris scanner on the company's next Galaxy Note phablet. And also because we expect Samsung to persist with the iris scanning technology for much longer than others did (Microsoft and ZTE, for example). While Samsung isn’t the first smartphone maker to dabble with the idea of eye scanning authentication technology in smartphones, chances are, they will again get the mind-share rights to the technology-just as they did with the edge curve smartphone display tech. And fingerprint scanners tend to wear out over time, reducing accuracy and increasing scan time. Secondly, fingerprint scanners tend to become inaccurate if there is dust, dirt or sweat on the finger or the scanner itself. And now that the tech is going mainstream, we expect medical researchers to test this out in greater detail.īut, do we really need to move beyond the fingerprint scanner? For starters, iris scanning involved no physical contact with any hardware, unlike fingerprint scanning. The fact that an iris scanner shines an unseen beam of light into the user’s eye every time, there may be chances of damage in the long term. There are some legitimate doubts about the long-term health risks that iris scanning technology may potentially pose. Which is why, for the foreseeable future, we will see both the iris scanner and the fingerprint scanner capabilities in smartphones-at least till the time the former matures enough for the latter to be done away with. It will be interesting to see when third party apps start to integrate this biometric scanning feature for authentication and access to user accounts. At present, this feature is limited to the apps for Bank of America, Citibank and US Bank. The third feature is the integration of the iris scanner into mobile banking apps. This app can be used to store the login credentials of various websites that you may regularly visit, and can allow easy login after establishing your identity with the iris scan. ![]() Secondly, iris scanning also drives a feature known as Samsung Pass. You could save your sensitive banking information here, hide away specific photos from the gallery and to block access to certain apps from prying eyes, for example. Apart from the iris scan, the Secure Folder also works with the fingerprint scanner, pattern lock and a number based PIN. The first is called Secure Folder-this is a separate folder for users to manage what they classify as private apps and files, and access them only after authentication. At the moment, Samsung is using the eye-scanning technology to drive certain software on the Note 7, apart from simple unlocking of the phone. ![]() And hence, there aren’t yet enough supporting and compatible software and apps made by third-party developers. While fingerprint scanners are very common now in Android smartphones, eye scanners are not yet as popular. |
